SKILLS4ATHLETES / ABOUT

Przemysław
Gaszyński

I prepare athletes for what their sport truly demands.

Strength and conditioning coach and educator. I connect the development of physical capabilities with learning to act effectively in the game.

LET’S DISCUSS COLLABORATION
Przemysław Gaszyński working with the Norwid Częstochowa coaching staff

01 / HOW I THINK

I focus on what the athlete can actually use.

More strength, a higher jump, a better test result. That can be meaningful progress. The next question is: what does that progress change in the way the athlete performs?

I see strength and conditioning as building the capabilities an athlete needs in their sport. Strength, power and endurance matter. So does the ability to read a situation, make a decision and use those capabilities under pressure from time, opponents and fatigue.

That is why I consider the person, the task and the environment together. I select training loads and methods for the specific problem, observe how the athlete responds and use that response to guide the next decision.

01 — CAPABILITIES

Build the physical foundations

Develop the qualities an athlete needs in their sport, taking into account their training history, stage of development and current readiness.

02 — SKILLS

Connect movement with the situation

Create tasks in which the athlete learns to pick up information and find effective solutions. Understand when an exercise genuinely supports performance in the game.

03 — DECISIONS

Read the response

Combine measurements with observation and conversation. Manage load in the context of training, competition, recovery and the athlete’s life.

02 / THE JOURNEY TO THIS APPROACH

My thinking changed on the court.

At first, I strongly believed in refining a movement pattern and completing the right number of repetitions. I assumed that better execution in an exercise would lead to better performance in the game.

Over time, I saw situations that did not fit that assumption. An athlete improved in practice, yet the same problem remained in competition. Saying they lacked talent, focus or character was not enough. I had to examine what I was offering as a coach.

That led me towards skill acquisition, ecological dynamics and the relationship between the athlete and the environment. I began to ask more carefully how training transfers to competition — and under what conditions the athlete actually learns.

Today, I treat methods as tools. I want to know which problem they solve, who they make sense for and how I will recognise whether they are helping. These are the questions I keep bringing back to practice.

03 / EXPERIENCE IN PRACTICE

Different teams. Different environments. Real work.

I have worked in professional clubs, a national team and youth sport — in Poland, India and China. Each environment required an understanding of people, how the work was organised and the demands of competition.

04 / KNOWLEDGE AND EDUCATION

I learn. I test. I share.

Education and professional development give me frameworks for thinking. Daily practice allows me to test them. In my lectures and writing, I connect these two worlds: research and the decisions a coach makes in the gym and on the court.
